Alfie Burden missed out twice today when he missed a possible 147 on the way to losing 4-3 to Ireland's Brendan O'Donoghue. The match saw the ex-pro up against Ireland's nomination for the tour next season and Alfie missed the yellow in the third frame for the possible maximum break.
O'Donoghue capitalised by winning the next two frames but Alfie leveled the scores at 3-3 before O'Donoghue took the last frame with ease 64-7. The win will now see O'Donoghue face ex-European Champion Alex Borg in the Last 16 tonight as the knockout stage really starts to heat up.
In other matches Ireland will be delighted to see it's other two players Mario Fernandez and David Hogan progress thanks to solid wins over Michael Zielinski and Yvan Van Velthoven. Mario now faces Reind Duut after his superb 4-2 win over Phil Williams and Hogan will have a tough match against Englands Sean Bullock who overcame Poland's Marcin Nitschke by the same score.
The people's favorite Tony Drago also had a solid win over Kurt Maflin and one shock of the day was a 4-1 win for Anthony Brabin over main tour bound Bjorn Haneveer. The Last 16 starts at 7pm tonight and you can keep track of the live scores right here..
