The General's International Cup 2009 got underway today in Hong Kong with all three main tour pro's recording wins although Chan Wai Kei did run both Liang Wenbo and Ricky Walden close in his two matches today.

Wenbo only managed a 4-2 win over his fellow countryman and Walden was ran even closer by Wai Kei with the match going to the deciding frame.

Tomorrow's matches will see both Walden and Wenbo battle it out for top spot in the group while in the other group Tian Pengfei will face both Li Yan and Marco Fu in his group game matches. Li Yan had earlier defeated Anda Zhang in a preliminary match on the 13th to qualify for the group stages knocking in an impressive 105 along the way.

Tomorrow will see the groups decided with the top two players from each of the three man groups progressing to the semi finals of the event which is being held in the General's Snooker Club in Hong Kong. The event was first held back in 2004 and was won by Thailand's Issara Kachaiwong who defeated Dominic Dale 6-3 in the final. The winner of this event on Thursday will take a first prize of HK$20,000.

Walden is currently doing a mini tour of the continent after competing in the 6 Red Grand Prix last week in Thailand and will then head on to the World Games in Taiwan after this event before returning to prepare for the new season which starts with the defense of his Shanghai Masters title in early September.
